New(ish) to the RP Scene

Introductions

Shalom, my soon-to-be friends. As the blunt title suggests, I'm relatively new to role playing (text based anyway), with my only experience pretty much being a couple of notebook games a few friends and I used to play. I'm eager to get a hang of things, though, since this kind of thing seems pretty rewarding. However, I'm a tad dull when it comes to learning things, so I hope you'll all bear with me!

The Mechanics of Me

A few boring miscellaneous things about me:

• I enjoy studying linguistics, especially the evolution of Spanish dialects and the Cyrillic script.
  
• I'm a history fanatic - I luv everything Byzantine related!
  
• My favorite Fairy Tail character? Gajeel. How can someone not like that sweet rock star hair?
  
• Speaking of rock, my favorite genre of music is classic rock.
  
• Favorite anime - Dangan Ronpa. I've never had a TV show give me the shivers quite like Dangan Ronpa.
  
• Favorite movie - I really can't choose. Django Unchained was pretty good.
  

Let's Talk About Us!

I'm not a fan of chatrooms. If you've ever typed a speedy message with a small typo that changed the whole meaning of the message, you'll understand my fear! Regardless, I'll try to pop into the chat box every now and again - do be gentle.

To get an idea of my daily schedule, throw a calender into a washing machine. That is, my day to day life is hectic (aren't all our lives hectic?). To remedy the boredom that is my life, I often find myself volunteering for random things, thus the "hectic" part comes in, so my plans radically change throughout the week. To top it off, I've got sleep apnea, meaning I get tired. A lot. I once tried to send a friend a message over Facebook and I actually fell asleep in the middle of typing, my forehead resting on the "enter" key. My point being that I don't know how often I can post. Don't worry, though,  I don't plan to leave any of my posting partners hanging!

Welcome to our wonderful site! I am Dederik, on here I have a few nicknames that people have given me due to previous experiences on other sites and so on but the most common is Dede. First and foremost, the chatbox can and will be rather hectic and crazy at times, in a similar way to your schedule. In advance I apologize if it gets overwhelming at times when you join, and would like to say all the glomps, snuggles, and people stealing you away don't mean any [small]lasting[/small] harm.

I enjoy medieval type games personally such as the total war franchise and crusader kings. My favorite nations from them tend to be Prussia, Brandenburg, HRE, and the Byzatine as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask away, to the right of the site under staff list has a small list of the staff currently online. Seijin is the owner of the site, and does not tend to deal with the applications and such. So it would be wiser to ask others.

Thanks for the welcome, Dede. I'm a big fan of the Total War series myself, especially Empire: Total War. Granted, it always took me a month just to beat the small campaigns. Actually, I should correct myself: it always took me a month just to get double teamed by France and Russia in the small campaigns.

I haven't tried the Crusader Kings games, although I have played the the Victoria series, which was made by the same developers of the Crusader Kings games if I'm not mistaken.

Ahh yes empire total war. What nation were you playing as that got double teamed by them? I remember a few total war campaigns when I would end up with 5 enemies fighting me all at once in the rome/medieval II games... good lord, in rome the phalanx formation saved my butt so many times when i've been on the defensive. Placed properly in a city they held off wave after wave of enemies greater than three times their size multiple times.

And ya crusader kings is made by the same people. The great thing about their creators is that they have sales often on steam, so you can almost always buy Crusader Kings 2 or EU4 at round 50-75% off every season I feel.

I played Prussia and the success of beating Poland and Austria got to my head, so I got cocky; I ended up being stretched too thin when Russia and France declared war and it was a massacre. A bloody massacre. And yes, there's nothing more enthralling than the feeling of beating an opponent several times larger than you in a strategy game. It's a real ego booster!   :lol:

I'll definitely keep an eye out for a sale though. I just checked Steam and the first Crusader Kings is only ten bucks at the moment. It's a tempting offer.

Enola I suggest buying a CK2 package when it goes on sale. There are loads of DLCs to add to the gameplay both mechanics and visually, along with some of its gorgeous songs. If you watch youtube videos and want to see more of its gameplay I highly suggest checking out Arumba on youtube, he has plenty of lets plays of the game being done as different nations or with different goals in mind. Best source I've found to see if you would enjoy CK2 or EU4 ^^

And thank you, Dede, for the sources. I just checked Arumba's videos and I'm now thoroughly convinced that CK2 is right up my alley.
