"Hmm. So she's the one." A thick british accent filled the air as the owner carefully scanned Riley. The black haired girl was currently seated in a chair kept inside the huge master bedroom, inside an even larger mansion. "Y-Yes, She is." The maid stuttered as she said these words. The blonde lady with the british accent stood in front of the seated girl.
"Her height is a little to short but that can be fixed and her hair. I don't like her haircut.” The lady said. Riley did not come here to be judged. “Um….You do realize that I’m sitting right here." The woman simply looked at Riley with a raised eyebrow before ignoring her. 'What is with her attitude?' “Do something about her hair." As soon as the british woman said that, all the other maids scurried around the room getting different equipment
After getting the needed products, all the maids stood in a straight line. The woman took a dress from one of the maids. It was a fairly pretty dress. “Young lady, go put this on.” Riley, without uttering a word, grabbed the dress and moved to the bathroom. She quickly stripped down the clothes she was wearing and put on that dress. When she exited the bathroom, the woman scanned her thoroughly. She then snapped her finger, to which three maids surrounded Riley.
One maid grabbed her hand and slipped a pair of long gloves on to it. The other one had a red ribbon in her hand, which she tightly tied around Riley’s torso, making her slightly wince. The third maid put a wig on Riley’s head, making her hair look a little longer than shoulder length. Riley looked at the mirror. She looked pretty good. “And to complete the look..” The woman took a pair of black stiletto heels from a maid. Riley’s eyes widened. “I’m not wearing those death traps.” The lady’s gaze quickly turned into a glare, making her look scary. Riley did kind of get freaked out by that look. “On second thought, these look beautiful. I should put them on.” She took the shoes from the woman’s hands and wore it.
Riley followed the maid who was leading her to her date. When they arrived inside the huge hall of the mansion, she saw a man, not much older than her , seated on the couch. He was very good looking, with his hair parted and neatly combed and she could see his green emerald eyes shine from the distance.
He noticed the two ladies and got up with an angry expression. “What took you so long?” He growled. Riley admits that he is handsome, but he needed to learn to be patient. The maid just stood there fumbling something. “Well say something.” He continued in an angry tone. “I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I took too much time to get ready.” The maid looked at Riley with a thankful expression before leaving. She extended her hand. “I’m Riley. I’ll be your date tonight.” The man, whose name Riley still did not know had his hands in his jeans pocket as he looked at her hand and then back at her. “We didn't come here for introductions. Let’s go. We’re already late thanks to you.”
Riley was slightly shocked by his attitude. “Well at least you could tell me you name.” Riley bit back. “Aiden.” He replied with his jaw clenched. “Well, that wasn't so hard.” Riley said with a smile. Aiden just walked away as she followed him.

About 15 minutes later, they reached the hall where the ball was supposed to take place. As they entered, Riley was mesmerized by the huge building. She had never been to a ball before so this was a lifetime experience for her. She felt someone grab her hand and looked up to find Aiden holding her hand. Her roughly dragged her to the the middle of the hall. “Don’t embarrass me. Got it?” He growled as his hold on Riley tightened. “Your attitude is already an embarrassment. I’m pretty sure you don’t need anything else.” Riley muttered but loud enough for him to hear. He looked at her and glared daggers which Riley just ignored.
A lady, dressed elegantly, came and stopped in front of them. “Aiden, honey, Is that you?” She asked, looking quite surprised. Aiden stopped and frowned. “Not this old hag.” He muttered under his breath but Riley heard him anyways. “Yes, it’s me.” He growled. The lady flinched as he said that. She turned her attention to Riley. “And who is this lovely lady?" Aiden didn’t speak up so she did. “I’m Riley, his date for toninght.” The lady smiled. “You both look absolutely adorable together.” Riley smiled at the compliment.
Suddenly Aiden grabbed her hand and dragged her outside into the garden which was empty. He roughly let go, causing Riley to wince as pain shot through her hand. “What the hell are you thinking? Don’t just go around telling people that you’re my date.” Riley was now getting tired of his attitude. “You should be glad you even have a date. If I knew that you have such a horrible attitude, I would never even have accepted the job.”
“Well I didn’t want a date to begin with.” Riley was getting angry at the ungrateful brat. “Well, rather than complaining, you should try to enjoy yourself for one. Just because you had a family tragedy doesn’t mean that you can just snap at people and show them this crappy attitude of yours.” Aiden was shaking with anger. “Well, you live a happy life. You’ll never understand the pain of losing someone. You wizards are just heartless people who’d accept any job for money.” He turned around to walk away. Riley, without thinking, grabbed his arm and turned him around before slapping him hard across his face.
Anger was evident on his face. He was about to speak up but Riley beat him to it. “You think I’m living a happy life? Well news flash. You’re not the only one who’s had a family tragedy. Just because your mother died doesn’t mean that you can take your anger out on people around you. Did you ever think how she would feel when she sees what her son has become. My parents were murdered when I was only 2 years old. Since then my 10 year old brother took care of me. He worked day and night, just to keep me happy. He joined the rune knights. He used to come home every day with bruises and scars from fights. But he didn’t stop because I looked up to him. He loved me so much that he would be ready to give up his life for me. 4 years ago, he died on a job. His murderer is still on the loose. Can you imagion how I feel?” Riley’s voice cracked slightly at the last sentence as warm tears now flowed down her face. Aiden’s angry eyes changed turned soft as he intensly listened.
Riley stopped yelling. “I suffered depression for 2 years until I found his diary. He wrote in there that he was proud of me for being who I am. He wrote all his beliefs there. He wanted me to grow up and be a kind person. That’s all he wanted. And that’s what I’m going to be.”
Riley suddenly felt a strong pair of arms around her. Aiden had pulled her into a hug, his chin resting on her head. “I’m sorry.” He said in a soft tone. “I guess I just needed someone to blame for her death and I blamed the world.”
They stood there in an embrace for what felt like hours but had only been mere minutes. Riley’s tears were now dry so she pulled apart. Aiden looked slightly disappointed but he spoke up. “Let’s go. We have a ball to attend.” Riley just simply smiled and followed. As they entered the building, Aiden pulled her to the middle of the dance floor where they swayed to the music. The ball was soon over and they returned to the mansion.
Riley got back to the room and changed into her normal attire and removed the wig. It felt nice when she removed those death traps from her feet. She grabbed her bag and exited the room only to find Aiden in the corridor. He hadn't noticed her as he yawned and stretched, wearing a casual white V-neck and a pair of jeans. His gaze suddenly shifted to Riley. “Riley?” He stared at her in shock. “Hmm….” Confusion was plastered on her face. “Your hair?” Realization hit the girl. “Oh, that. It was a wig. Your maid didn’t like my hairstyle. What? You don’t like it as well?” Aiden’s lips curved into a smile, a genuine smile. “No. I think you look more attractive this way.” Riley smiled. She wasn’t used to compliments. “Um….Thank you.”
With that Riley was about to walk away but a hand stopped her and turned her around. Before she knew it, Aiden had kissed her cheek, making her flush. He moved his lips away from her cheek and chuckled at the way she blushed. “Until we meet again.” Riley didn’t trust her voice at the moment so she simply nodded and exited the house. When she left the building, there was a stupid smile glued onto her face.
