Find this book!

Standing under the beaming rays of the sun, Riley carefully read the flyer consisting the job request. "There has to be an address given here." Her eyes skimmed through the paper and lightened as they reached the end. "Here it is." She is currently in Peace Village where it is, as usual, very peaceful. Following the map in her hand she kept walking until she reached her destination, the house that belonged to the old lady who had sent the job request.

Knocking lightly on the wooden door, Riley patiently waited. The door opened revealing an old lady, probably in her early eighties. "Hello dear. How may I help you?" she asked politely. "Um.... My name is Riley. I'm a wizard from Sabertooth. You sent a job request. So here I am." Riley stated in her usual cheery self.  The's lady's eyes widened in as she remembered. "Oh yes, come on in." She gestured for Riley to enter. Riley entered the house and was suddenly hit with the strong scent of cookies. "Take a seat dear. My name is Martha. Thank you for accepting my request. I'll be right back."

Riley took a seat on the comfortable sofa and took a look around. The house had a very welcoming atmosphere. Then a poster firmly hung on the wall caught her eye. 'Stranger without Direction by Jarvis Dane'. At that moment the old lady returned with a plate full of cookies to which Riley, unwillingly, started drooling. Martha placed the cookies on the table and sat down opposite Riley. "Help yourself dear" Riley began eating as she was hungry after travelling for so long.

The old lady simply smiled at Riley. "So mam, this book you're looking for, does it happen to be Stranger without Direction by Jarvis Dane." The lady looked slightly surprised. "Dear, how did you know? I didn't mention the book name in the flyer." Riley stuffed the cookie into her mouth and pointed towards the poster.

The lady moved her head in that direction and the smile returned to her face. "Oh yes, I forgot." Riley stood up brushing the cookie crumbs off of her clothes. "Well then I guess I should get going. Thank you for the cookies. They were delicious." Riley waved goodbye to Martha and headed towards the library.

Following the directions Martha gave her, Riley arrived in front of the gigantic doors of the library located in the Peace Village. Riley raised her hand and push the doors open. The inside of the library was magnificent. There were humongous racks with tons on shelves, each filled with many books. Right at the entrance was the reception. Riley walked over there and saw that the reception was empty. She rung the small bell that was kept at the counter and waited for a few minutes. She was starting to lose her patience.

"Hello! Is anyone here?" Her voice echoed through the empty library. After hearing no response, she decided to go look for the book herself. The only problem was that the library was huge and Riley did not know where to start so she started looking at random shelves. She noticed that the books were not in their proper places. They were kept in different racks.

As she was scanning through the shelves she heard someone coming. "Hey! Who are you? You must be one of those little troublemakers." A middle aged man, who the girl assumed was the security guard, yelled. Riley was oblivious to what was happening. She knew that she looked small, but 'little troublemaker' did not suit her.

"Excuse me. But i think you got the wrong idea-" Her sentence was interrupted mid-way by the man's voice. "How many times have I told you children that the library is closed? I do not want to see you anywhere near the library. You understand." The man dragged Riley and threw her outside the library. Riley scowled at the man as she got up from the dirty floor and dusted her clothes. "Guess I'll have to find another way to get in." Riley rocked her brain before she came up with an idea. Her lips curved into a smile.

Riley hid herself and kept an eye on the guard who looked like he would fall asleep any moment now. The mans eyelids slowly closed but Riley waited for a couple of minutes until she was sure that the guard was asleep.

When it was safe to enter, she quietly made her way to the front door where the guard was now peacefully sleeping and very slowly opened the door and snuck inside. Closing the door behind her, Riley turned around. "I got in but where do I find the book? This library is huge." She muttered to herself. She took out the flyer that was folded into the pocket of her red shorts and opened it.


"It says over here that the book is out of print and not sold anymore. This must mean that the book is old." Riley took a look around the library until she heard some shuffling noises. She hid behind a rack and peaked. There was a women, probably a few years older than Riley, rearranging the books. A book suddenly fell from the shelf, catching Riley's eye. "WATCH OUT" She yelled as she ran towards the lady and got her out of the way.

"Are you okay?" Riley asked. The lady looked shocked. When she snapped out of it, she looked at Riley. "What are you doing here? The library is closed. No one is allowed in here. I'm calling security." "you're welcome" Riley muttered quietly. The lady got up but Riley stopped her. "Please I have to borrow a book." Riley explained her situation to the Lady. She was debating to herself for sometime before sighing. "I'm the librarian. I'll let you borrow a book but only for the old lady and also because you saved me. What book do you want?" Riley smiled at the librarian.

"The book is called Stranger without Direction by Jarvis Dane." The librarians frowned. "That's a pretty old book." She was lost in thought for some seconds. "Follow me." Riley quietly followed the librarian until they reach a big wooden door. The librarian opened it and entered. Riley simply followed. Behind the door were more books. But these looked quite old.They were very dusty. The librarian looked around for a while as Riley stood quietly and waited.


"Ah, got it." The librarian spoke up after minutes of searching "Stranger without Direction by Jarvis Dane. Let me just enter the details then you can borrow it." The librarian walked over to the reception and typed into her computer. "You're ready to go. Greet Miss Martha for me." Riley took the book "Thank you."

"You're welcome. And watch out for the kids." Riley didn't understand what she meant by 'watch out for the kids' but she, nonetheless, muttered a quick thank you and walked out. She exited the library to find the guard still sleeping. She ignored him and walked away. As she was scanning the book, someone stole it from her hand. She looked up to find a boy, not more than ten years of age, holding the book and laughing. "Hey! Give that back." Riley said. "No!" Was the reply she got.

Riley was aggravated at the child. She finally got the book and it was stolen by a kid. She leaped forward to grab the kid but he had already tossed the book to a girl, who was around the same age as him. "Give that back." She said. "NO!" They said in union.

Riley took a deep breath to calm herself and put on a strict face. "Give that back now. Don't you know that stealing is bad. What will your mother say if she finds out? huh?" She said in a strict tone. "Mamma would be mad." The kids replied in union again. "Yes, Mamma would be mad. Now be good kids and give the book back." They quietly handed the book back to Riley and she walked away, smiling to herself. She reached her jeans pocket to find her map missing. She quickly turned around and saw the kids holding the map. "HEY!" Riley yelled. The kids looked up and started running away.

"Oh no you don't." Riley chased them. The kids were fast and they kept exchanging the map between each other so it was hard for Riley to catch up to them. After a lot of running, Riley kneeled down, trying to catch her breath. She looked up and saw that the kids were not tired.

"Please....give....it....back. I'm.....new.....to the....village....and...i'll....get lost." Riley managed to say these words between heavy pants. The kids looked at each other and nodded. The boy held the map in front of Riley's face. Riley smiled at the kids and was about to take the map but the boy tossed it to the girl and started laughing.

Riley groaned in frustration "Not again." She gave the kids an innocent look. "Please give it back. I have to give this book to an old lady who asked for my help." They exchanged looks before holding the map in front on Riley's face. But before she could grab the map, the girl tore it in half. Riley's mouth was hung open. Now she was angry "Why you little..." She stamped her foot in anger as the children laughed. So she ignored them and walked away.

Riley searched the entire village and after hours of searching, she finally reached Martha's house. She fixed her hair and wiped the sweat off of herself because she didn't want Martha to see her looking like garbage. She knocked on the door. Martha opened the door. "Dear you're back.". "Yes, And i have your book with me." Riley took out the book and held it in front of the lady. Happiness was visible across her face. She grabbed the book. "Oh thank you so much. I am very grateful." Martha said with a smile. "Come in." She moved for Riley to enter.

Riley stepped in and Martha closed the door. She sat down on the sofa as Martha had requested her too. "Is there anything you want dear?" Martha asked as her politely. Riley was tired "Can i have some water please?" Martha just smiled and walked into the kitchen. 

The door slightly creeked as it opened. "Grandma, we're home." A very familiar voice echoed through the quiet house. Coming into Riley's view were none other than those kids from before. Riley stood up from her seat. "You." She pointed at them with an accusing look. Martha appeared out of the kitchen with a glass of water in her hands. "Oh you kids are back." Riley turns to Martha with confusion plastered on her face. Martha reads Riley's expression "Oh yes, you haven't met. Riley dear, These are my grandchildren, Mark and Marissa." She says pointing at the kids. Martha then turns to the kids and points at Riley. "And children, this is the kind wizard who helped me find the book i wanted to read."

Riley looks at the kids with her eyebrow raised and her hands crossed over her chest. The kids put on a guilty expression. "We're sorry" They say. Martha looks confused. "What are you kids apologizing for?" They look at Martha "We caused the wizard lady a lot of trouble. That's why." This time the girl spoke up.

Riley sighed. "My name is Riley not wizard lady. And it's okay." The kids smile cheerfully and hug Riley "Thank you" The say i union. Martha smiles at her grandchildren. "Okay then. I should get going." Martha nods in understanding and Riley departs to Sabertooth, waving goodbye to all three of them. The mission went pretty good. The only problem is that Riley is lost. Again.
