Get them Bandits (Jin and Elyx)

The casual mage was standing in front of the notice board, looking at D-rank job requests with a plate of red velvet cake in his hand. He had half eaten the cake already and no job had attracted his attention. Until he noticed the job request that contained breaking an entry, robbery and now the task of retrieving the stolen objects. ”A D-rank job, the thieves must be normal people like the last ones we dealt with. This shouldn’t be that difficult and it seems these guys really need help”. He took the job request and finished his cake, placing the empty plate on the table. ”Now to find my comrade in arms” he thought looking around the guild.

After locating Elyx, he walked up to him and handed him the job request. ”Hey Elyx, let’s go on a D-rank job. These guys look like they really need our help and it doesn’t look all that difficult either”. There had been no job so far that he hadn’t done with Elyx, he didn’t plan to change that either. They had magic that went along and both were cooperative so they made a good team. They had even been on more difficult C-rank jobs, doing a D-rank job was becoming more and more easier now.

Job Description:

C rank jobs have been all that Elyx and Jin have been doing recently, so this shouldnt be too difficult. He didn't even want to read the paper though, if it was D rank, he can read it on their trip to wherever they were going. He decided to go on the trip by nodded his head with his usual grin. He didn't really feel like talking today, so he plans to keep his talking to a minimum unless it was necessary. This means he won't be doing recon on the clients and just go with the flow on this trip. He returned the paper to Jin and bit into his chocolate before he jumped off the seat and onto his feet.

Let's do this quickly, it is rank D after all. Elyx said with a grin on his face as usual. He then began to walk forward towards the door so they can exit. They are partners when it comes to doing jobs, they have gone on every job side by side, which often gives them the upper hand. They grow stronger and gain much reputation as fast as they can complete the jobs. To earn the trust of Kakuma was one thing, but to actually be noticed by her for your work was something completely new. He made sure not to disappoint anyone with his work.

And so the dynamic duo set off on their journey, taking a boat arriving at Hargeon town. The best way was to talk to the client beforehand but they were also at the harbor. Instead of talking to the client, they just needed to do some investigative work. ”We need to find a suspicious ship, if we can find it; we can just wait for the bandits here. The job request does say to stop them from getting to it”. He was right about that but how to find a ship that didn’t belong? Jin looked around and noticed an office, pointing at the office he looked at Elyx: ”They must maintain some sort of record right? Let’s go ask them”. Elyx didn’t seem like he wasn’t in a talkative mood so Jin decided he would do the investigative work. The perks of working together, one grows to understand the other more and can adapt accordingly.

Jin walked into the office and asked the old guy maintaining the register. ”Hey there, we’re mages from Black Rose and we’re here to catch some bandits. Please help us by telling us if there’s a suspicious ship around”. The old man fixed his large glasses and took a good look at Jin, who in response showed the old man his guild tattoo on the left side of his neck. The old man looked through the register and told them about a ship that came with nothing, so it wasn’t trading and it had no incoming stuff either. It had been there the entire day and had arrived last night so in his experience, that was a suspicious ship. After attaining the whereabouts of the ship, Jin came out of the office and told the entire story to Elyx.

A.... Ship... Just what Elyx needed. He hated the rivers, seas, oceans, all bodies of water that anyone can swim in. He still remembered the face of the one who saved him, and maybe if Elyx and her were both a little bit older, he wouldn't have been so mentally scarred. Many people called him lucky since she grew up to be a beautiful young woman, but rather hard to get the attention of. Elyx didn't care, he was miles away from her and themz this was his new life now and he had to live it right. His fear of water remains with him though.

So they just had to find some sort of ship? Then do recon from inside the ship and prove something to prove they were guilty? It sounds easy, but how were they going to find a group of men on the sea. There were many ships, and Elyxs flying can only last for so long, and there would be no way for Jin to fly as well. Wait... The manager would've mentioned if it sailed. But it didn't, chances are it is still actually here. Now he understood what Jin might be thinking. So where to first? Elyx asked without thinking.

”We find the ship but keep a close watch. If it’s about to sail, we stop it immediately and confront the bandits. If the bandits aren’t there yet, we hide nearby and wait for them. It would be a perfect place to set up an ambush and they would least expect it” . Jin never was a sneaky individual, he liked keeping things fair. It was most likely that the bandits would be in greater number so if the two faced them head on, they might be outnumbered. However, that didn’t necessary mean that the two were at any kind of disadvantage. Regardless, it would be best to find the ship first and formulate a strategy based on the findings from then on.

Based on the directions he had attained from the office, he began to lead the way. It was a normal sized ship stationed separately from all the other ships. Most likely, it was would be all prep and ready to go when the need be. They walked for a few minutes and arrived near the ship, there was no sound or any signs of life on the ship. Jin looked at Elyx and inquired what they should do in his opinion, ”Well we definitely can’t see anything. Should we try and look for them inside the ship? Or should we wait here?”

The numbers game was against them anyways, if they can at least keep the element of surprise, they can even themselves out with the people in there. They are herded in the ship, if they spread, they get more environmental space to fight with and the space Jin and Elyx have would be minimized to a really low point. One with barely any room to breathe in. Their magic could only do so much, but that doesn't mean they can walk in recklessly and start firing guns. Elyx put out his left hand, pulling a ball of light out of it. It then shattered and revealed a Violin inside. When he did this with his right hand, a Violin bow was summoned. The numbers game is a tough game to play. They outnumber us as it is. While they are herded up like that, they have no space to fight with, evening out the odds.

Elyx started walking on board, careful not to make too much noise. Hopefully Jin was following right behind Elyx so that he wouldn't have to fight them on his own. They were in what seemed to be a conference room inside of the ship, which would be a perfect time to investigate. However, it was sound muffled, nothing Elyx heard could be put into any words. He tried to lean his ear against the door, but nothing could still be heard. That was when he gave up and looked through the window, just to see someone looking back at him.

'Monster Dice' :

Jin followed Elyx along, carefully enough not to make a sound. It was a bit ironic though, a musician trying to be sneaky. Wasn’t his hobby to produce sounds instead of muffling them? His humor would have to wait though, it appeared Elyx had located the bandits in the conference room. Charging in with guns blazing would definitely be a terrible idea. They had no knowledge of their exact numbers either, there might be a dozen people in there. If they ended up among that many numbers, even for these two it would become a troublesome situation. While Elyx looked around, Jin kept his ear to the door just in case a word made out or something. He hadn’t had any luck with suddenly Elyx stared into the window and they ended up being discovered.

The bandit who noticed Elyx informed the other four and all of them ran outside, slamming the door and Jin along with it. He stepped aside holding his nose, it had hit him a bit but nothing too serious. ”This is a private boat, go away” said one of them. Jin stepped forward and showed the guild tattoo on the left side of his neck, revealing that he and his friend were Black rose mages. ”Sorry to interrupt but we’ll be taking back what’s not yours” said Jin as he stared down the foes. The battle was about to begin, the battle ground was the main deck of the ship. The two D-rank mages were outnumbered but was numbers enough to take them down? Only time would tell.

Elyx though that maybe they had a chance to take the treasure without even fighting, but he would need to think before he could try anything like that. He then began to play a song. This move he never used in a while, but it used to get him out of trouble many times. He knew it would take time to charge, so he decided to run up the wooden stairs, the man following him as well. Now he needed to run, but it was all going to Elyxs plan. Sadly, he couldn't tell Jin where to go or what to do, or the plan will be ruined. He relied on Jins common sense here.There was no one guarding the door at the current moment. The sound from above will alert the pirates, so hopefully he would take that time to strike.

Elyx got to the top of the stairs and continued running to the edge of the ship, seemingly cornered, but he grinded down the edge to get to the first floor of the ship. The execution bomb was going to strike, and it was going to strike with a lot of power as well.

Elyx had begun to move and he didn’t even tell Jin the plan. Originally Jin had decided since they were discovered to take them out. He believed that he could take out three of them easy and Elyx would take care of the remaining two. However, Elyx began to play his music and ran to the upper deck being followed by two of the bandits. Well he was going to let Elyx do what he wanted to, he probably wanted to distract all of these bandits. Sadly, they were a tad bit cleverer and divided into two instead. Jin looked at the bandit in front of all three, he was continuously staring at the mage. ”I suppose you really don’t like mages, ha?” he said making an attempt at humor.

Jin had begun to lower the temperature of the floor and the bandits too, but they were at a distance so they would’ve barely noticed. The two bandits behind the lead one took out knives, they were really not in a good mood. ”Knives? This isn’t good. I suppose I’ll have to take down from a distance. I could call for help but do I really need it though?”. He was still considering his options when the two rushed to attack him, they were fast. One came from the left and the other from the right, Jin jumped back and waited for them to come in range. He waved his arm making an arc that encompassed the area in which both opponents were heading. As a result of his movement, a heat wave was generated heading straight for the bandits. They had already come in too close and weren’t expecting a counter, so they ended up getting hit by the wave at close range. Both fell on their knees as their skin was severely burned. They let go of their knives and they ended up at Jin’s feet. He picked up the knives and looked at the remaining bandit. He had taken out two of them, one last remained. He had hoped Elyx would be dealing with the other two.

The bandit didn’t like what was done to his comrades since they were screaming “it burns” and some unidentifiable things along with it. This bandit had a sword on him, thankfully Jin had acquired two knives himself. There were other means to take him down too but there was this spell he wanted to try out anyways.  Jin began to alter the temperature of both knives lowering them and turning the color to light blue. The bandit was so outraged he didn’t notice that and charged in blindly, his attack was blocked by Jin using both knives. The bandit launched a series of continuous attacks at him and he only parried them. Apparently, the bandit was stronger and faster so he did have the advantage. After some time the man felt it though, his fingers had gotten numb, his body was getting way too cold. He looked at Jin with fear in his eyes, ”What did you do?”. Jin smirked as the man’s sword dropped on the ship’s deck and he fell to the floor shivering. The previous two had been burned, this guy was too cold to move now. Jin dropped the knives and waited for his friend to appear, his spell had worked just perfectly.

Due to the continuous collision between weapons and the close range, Jin had increased the effectiveness of his abilities. He was already altering the temperature of the bandit’s body so when he got close it only sped up the procedure. The weapons Jin used were also cold with each collision the sword of the bandit got colder but in the heat of the moment he didn’t notice. He only noticed after it was already too late.

Nice job!Elyx exclaimed as he continued to grind down the rail, making sure not to lose his balance as he did so. It seems Jin was able to take care of himself while Elyx was gone. That was exactly what he expected from his friend, they can't lose this moment while they still had it. They can find the items the need inside of the conference and get out quickly. For this job, it seemed to take a lot longer than usual, especially for one of a D rank. But what can one do about it? And they were almost done after all. The two men tried to run down the stairs, but it wasn't going to get them to Elyx. Even if they did get to him, he would have a surprise ready for them. He continued to charge the bomb until his Violin glowed in green light, ready to let loose one of his best moves. The Wind Lerale Execution Bomb, a wind bomb that could knock out many people.

Elyx ran inside of the conference room with the bomb ready, a few men located inside, ready to fight against him, but this bomb was going to blow this room away. He stopped playing and left an accent on the E string to let the bomb go off. It loomed like a small spinning balk of wind, but its knock back force is deadly to everyone but the user. It doesn't inflict damage on its own, but its knock back effect is going to work. Bye bye! Elyx said happily as the wind drew a lot of force against everything in the room. The wind broke the door and sent it flying out, and all the men in the room were slammed against the walls with great force.Let's look here Jin.

Jin and Elyx had one thing in common, both appeared to be kind gentlemen but they always left their opponents in a bad state. Jin in particular had left all his opponents so far either harshly burned or completely frozen. Elyx had either blown them away or one time he used a Vulcan’s fireball on him, as a result the creature was killed. Both were nice and social and were always smiling and yet both were deadly. This time too, Jin took care of his share of foes and Elyx didn’t lag behind. After Elyx smashed around his foes, Jin followed him into the room.

”So we’re looking for jewels, apparently lots of them” he said as he recalled the job details. He leaned down to look under the table and found nothing. He then noticed that there was a small crack on the floor, possibly a result of Elyx’s attack. Putting his hand on the floor, he burned the floor weakening it and then he kicked making a hole in it. That something that he noticed was a shining little thing. The hole revealed the bags that contained lots of jewels in them. Jin grabbed Elyx by the shoulder and pointed at them. After that the two friends grabbed the bags, walked out of the ship. Before they did, Jin froze and then broke the ship’s wheel in case the bandits tried to escape.

The two mage returned to the client with the bags of jewels and also informed the local law enforcement to arrest the bandits. Obviously they were from a neutral guild, so they had nothing to do with the kingdom or the local law enforcement but it would be better to put these criminals behind bars. It would keep them from harming other people and that’s what Jin wanted. After that they claimed their well deserved reward and began their journey back to the guild.
