Zoe's D → C Exam.

After resting for a while and making sure that she was completely ready to go, Zoe headed towards the center of the forest where she met up with Nightken who then proceeded to explain to her the second part of the exam.

As soon as he completed his sentence about stealing the ring from his pet’s mouth, he snapped his finger and a wyvern appeared right next to him. Scanning the animal from head to toe as Nightken explained to her about her test and how her winds would not be able to affect Tenshu, a sweat drop appeared on the back of her head.

“You’re kidding me, right.” Zoe muttered under her breath as Nightken gave the signal for Tenshu to take off.

At that exact moment, the wyvern spread its wings and took off to the sky. Glancing upwards at the wyvern, Zoe gulped a bit nervously. She then took off towards the sky as well halting to a stop in front of Tenshu.

“Um, hi Tenshu. It’s lovely to meet you.” Zoe said, as she desperately hoped that the wyvern would give her the ring over a nice conversation. “Say, you have a ring in your mouth and I kind of need it to pass my exam. So, I was thinking that how about we become best buddies and you give me the ring. What say?”

As a response to that question of hers, the wyvern did nothing more than bellow towards her. The wind that was released from its ferocious bellow was enough to send Zoe flying backwards, momentarily losing her control for a few seconds making her tumble downwards.

However, she managed to get control of herself right in time and looked at Tenshu. “Well, I’m guessing that’s a no then.”

Without a moment’s pause, Tenshu rushed towards Zoe ready to knock her out. The brunette let herself tumble downwards just as Tenshu reached the area she was previously at. Gaining control of herself again, she approached the wyvern from directly underneath and raised her arms forward aiming for the area around Tenshu’s feet.

‘Aerial Blow Away!’ As she thought of the spell, a gush of wind shot forth from her hands in a circular motion, which were lined parallel to each other. The gush of wind hit Tenshu’s feet as he had not noticed it however, it had little to no effect at all.

Noticing the brunette underneath him, Tenshu tried to slam its foot onto her. Clenching her teeth in frustration, Zoe cried out, “Wind Barrier!”

A barrier of wind accumulated around her, taking the hit of Tenshu’s foot however, it only delayed the attack for a short while before the force of the foot overwhelmed the barrier and it slowly started disappearing.

Taking this chance, Zoe swiftly rushed out from underneath it to stand a few meters behind Tenshu just as the barrier completely disappeared. “Damn it. My spells have no effect on the wyvern. At this rate, I’ll never be able to get the ring out of its mouth without getting torn in half. What do I do?”

Tenshu, noticing that Zoe was no longer underneath him, turned around to spot the mage behind him. With another growl whilst spreading its wings, Tenshu rushed towards her with extreme speed. Barely being able to act on time, the wind mage jumped to the side to avoid the attack however, got her left leg scraped by the spikes on the wyvern’s wing in the process.

Clutching her leg as she noticed that it was bleeding, Zoe tried to keep herself in the sky but realized that she would soon lose control. Spotting a nearby tree that was quite high, the brunette landed on it and sat as she glanced at the blood that oozed out from the gash in her left leg. This was bad; very bad.

However, now was not the time to worry about that. If she stalled any longer then Tenshu would soon spot her. Tearing a couple of leaves from the tree that she had inhabited, Zoe wrapped them around the gash on her leg wincing at the agony that seared through her. But at least, now the bleeding would stop. Standing up wincing slightly, Zoe moved her left leg and noticed that even though it hurt a lot, she would still be capable of flying.

Peering upwards, Zoe noticed that Tenshu had spotted her and was rushing towards her. On reflex, Zoe took off to the sky and started flying as well with the wyvern hot on her heels. It was clear to her that continuous attacks would not work on the animal; she needed some form of a strategy which probably had to include a distraction.

But the question was, what was she going to try to do? As Zoe flew around taking twists and turns every now and then with Tenshu chasing her, the brunette’s mind gears started accelerating.

The ring was in the mouth of the wyvern which meant that she had to, in some way, come in contact with its mouth. And for that to happen, she had to get close to it and Tenshu wasn’t even letting her get anywhere close. That meant that she would have to sneak up on him by the means of some distraction.

A plan formulated in her mind and she inwardly puked about what she was going to do. “I can’t believe I’m actually going to this.” Zoe groaned to herself as she took a turn that would lead her back to the place where Nightken was standing.

Tenshu kept on chasing her, slowly closing the distance between them. As it neared the wind mage, she abruptly came to a halt. Swiftly turning, Zoe made sixteen blades appear in her hand due to her spell ‘Air Blades’, with two blades in between two fingers.

Swinging both of her hands forward, Zoe let the blades leave her grasp and rush towards Tenshu. The wyvern noticed them coming and swung its claws forward, successfully managing to strike them away from itself making the blades tumble to the ground and disappear mid-way.

Almost seeming as though Tenshu was scoffing, the wyvern looked at the direction at which the wind mage was standing only to see that she had mysteriously disappeared.

The said mage suddenly appeared above the wyvern and bellowed as she aimed her right foot towards Tenshu’s head to land a kick. Whilst the wyvern was distracted in trying to block the blades, Zoe had taken that chance to swiftly, fly above the direction of wyvern’s head ensuring that it did not see her.

As her leg, with full-force, came in contact with Tenshu’s scaly head, a sudden pain erupted in the brunette’s right leg making her almost scream. The wyvern’s head was very resistant however, even though she was not able to direct any damage at it, the sudden surprise of the brunette sneaking up on Tenshu made it lose its concentration thus, resulting it in losing its balance.

Zoe tried to tackle the wyvern so it wouldn’t be able to fly. ‘Wind Barrier.’ Enveloping the wyvern in the wind barrier, she tried her best to nullify his capability of flying as both the wyvern and the female downwards. But it seemed as though the barrier would not last long at all because as soon as she enveloped Tenshu in it, the silver wyvern struggled profusely making the barrier seemingly start to disappear.

“Here goes nothing.” Zoe muttered as she thrust her right hand inside Tenshu’s mouth, the saliva and hot breath hitting her hand with full force whilst using her other hand to direct the wind towards Tenshu’s mouth so that it would stay open due to the excessive amount of air flying in the direction of its mouth.

Locating it underneath Tenshu’s tongue, Zoe clasped the ring in her hand and pulled her hand outwards, grinning at the ring that was successfully, in her hand. Tenshu snapped at Zoe and her focus came back to the ground, which was merely just a few away from them.

Hitting the ground with a loud ‘thud’ with Zoe sprawled over Tenshu, she groaned in pain, still clutching the ring in her hand. Looking at the wyvern, the brunette quickly got up and ran a bit despite the pain in both her legs – which was thankfully, slowly starting to subside – and reached the area where Nightken was standing, only to look back to see the wyvern getting up and making its way towards her.

“Look!” Zoe waved the ring in front of Nightken, “I got the ring! Now stop your pet before it tears me in half!”
