https://www.fairytail-rp.com/t12675-unfurled-wings-and-revealed-powers-akeya-s-secondary-training
Note: Soul Dance: Twilight Dragon is old Primary. Shadow Dragon Slayer 1st gen is the magic the training is for, which is moved to Primary according the rules regarding Dragon Slayers while Soul Dance: Twilight Dragon is placed as new Secondary. Raven has asked Staff regarding this and said this is accepted.
Description:
Soul Dance is not so much a type of magic as a method to become one with magic, which grants the user magic abilities according to their soul. Soul Dance is based on performing various rituals to attune yourself with the flow of magic (especially your own), to the point that the magic interacts with your very being, which results in the magic altering to fit your soul. Like this you gain an affinity for magic, and for fighters more importantly, you gain abilities which fit you almost perfectly. Of course the more strict you are with the use of the rituals and the longer you keep doing them the more effective, but Soul Dance also has a side effect: The more you use Soul Dance, the more your soul and your magic will be combined. This can result in that you gain new weaknesses, like increased drawback effects when you have no magic left. Another example is that if Soul Dance grants you fire abilities, you could become more sensitive to cold. The negative effects become lesser the more effort you put into using Soul Dance and your magic abilities correctly, but they never completely disappear. On the other hand, those who only use Soul Dance to gain some abilities and then recklessly use those abilities will progress faster, but the negative effects will also be a lot stronger. Somebody who only performed the Soul Dance rituals a couple of times and then used the fire abilities they gained from it without restraint or discipline may become powerful, but if they go too far they might even be completely incapable of withstanding low temperatures, to the point that during winter they can't leave their home due to the cold.
In Akeya's case following the teachings of Soul Dance has shown that her soul is like that of a dark dragon: Ruthless, arrogant, mysterious and strong-willed. However, it has also revealed that she has a deep appreciation for knowledge and power, and for beauty in almost all its forms. The results of this is that Soul Dance has started turning Akeya into a dragon, slowly but surely eroding her links to humanity and expanding the effects of her draconic lineage.
Strengths:
Soul Dance specific:
- Those who follow the teachings of Soul Dance are sensitive to magic, allowing them to sense it fairly easily, with advanced practitioners even being capable of sensing it from long distances, determining the type of magic, and precisely pinpointing the origin.
- Soul Dance has the great benefit that whatever ability it bestows upon you, it's an ability which matches you. This means that every Soul Dancer is 'talented' with their ability, and thus have little difficulty learning to use it.
- Users of Soul Dance never have to worry about not having all the requirements to use their abilities. All they need is magic and their soul. As long as both are present, a Soul Dancer has everything they need.
- Soul Dance materializes your soul as a magic ability. Soul Dancers have a good understanding of themselves, both because of the meditation and rituals used by Soul Dance and because they see just who they are whenever they use their magic.
- There is no limit to the possible effects Soul Dance can have on the user. The raw strength depends on the user, but otherwise Soul Dance will simply give you the ability most fitting for you, regardless of whether that magic would otherwise be hard to obtain or nearly impossible to learn. Also, abilities granted by Soul Dance tend to keep growing and developing as long as the Soul Dancer keeps performing the rituals and following the training method.
Twilight Dragon specific:
- Akeya's draconic powers include a toughness above the average human. When prepared for trouble it is hard to cut her skin, and she can take a beating without it knocking her out.
- Like with her toughness, Akeya possesses physical prowess that allows her to overpower most humans when it comes to contests of raw strength. This means that when she hits you, she hits hard, and you stay hit.
- Twilight Dragon causes Akeya to slowly turn into a dragon. This has as result that the effects are permanent transformation rather than temporary spells.
Weaknesses:
Soul Dance specific:
- While Soul Dance can give an endless variety of abilities, itself it does not contain any fighting abilities. It contains rituals and training methods, meant to help attuning with the flow of magic. It takes a while before the abilities given by Soul Dance are strong enough to be used in real life situations, and until that time you gain very little of practical use.
- Soul Dance gives you an ability which fits you. This can be very advantageous, since it is almost guaranteed that it's an ability that you're very good at using and that has plenty of room for development, it also means that you have no say in what ability you get. If you as a person aren't suited for fighting, the ability you get will not be one which is very usable in a fight, except if you somehow manage to think around the box.
- Because Soul Dance focuses on materializing your soul as magic ability, it also means that everybody who sees you using your magic ability can see just what kind of person you are. The only way you can deceive people properly while using Soul Dance is if deception is such a big part of you that it also becomes part of the ability granted by Soul Dance. Otherwise, there is no way to hide who you are, even towards yourself. Not everybody is capable of accepting just what kind of person they are.
- Soul Dance might have great benefits, but it also has great risks. The more you use it, the more powerful you become with it, and the more attuned with magic you become, but the risks also increase, and your weaknesses grow. A fire user will become vulnerable to cold. Somebody who gains the ability to create armour will feel extremely exposed when not armoured. Summoners feel lonely when without their summoned beings, and seeing their summoned beings get hurt might hurt just as much as if they themselves were hurt. Of course, this isn't always to the same extends: Those who properly follow the teachings of Soul Dance, and do not just throw their magic around will progress slowly, but their development is steady, for that lack of speed is compensated by the decrease of negative effects. In contrast, one who only cares for the power gained, and who do not feel the need to restrain themselves, will progress at dangerous speed, but their development is shaky, for that speed is compensated by the vulnerability they afflict themselves with.
- As stated above, Soul Dance is not just a toy for power. It is a method to gain understanding. You could even call it a way of life, if you are inclined to be that dramatic. Either way, those who follow the teachings of Soul Dance must continue to do so, and with great diligence, for while the Soul Dance opens you to magic, from that point on you have to keep working on that hole, otherwise it will turn into a weakness. It is possible to completely abandon Soul Dance, but in the process will almost surely lose anything you may have gained up until that point, because you have to close yourself off from the magic, preventing it from draining and weakening you, but also removing the abilities that connection gave you.
Twilight Dragon specific:
- Akeya doesn't like light, to the extend that she is vulnerable to light based abilities. Since she is a diligent practitioner of Soul Dance the effects aren't that bad, but she still is clearly weaker when set against a light user from the same power level.
- Like dragons, Akeya is weak against Dragon Slayer magic. it may not be as bad as with dragons, for she is still mostly human, but for her Dragon Slayers are about as dangerous a foe as there is. The fact that she herself is also a Dragon Slayer doesn’t help much.
- While Akeya can sense magic quite clearly, and has a good understanding of it, she has trouble learning any magic ability which does not agree with her Twilight Dragon. For example, even a simple earth spike would be a serious challenge for Akeya to create. Soul Dance may bestow understanding and power, but with that come clear limitations.
- The effects of Soul Dance have estranged Akeya from most people. They find her intimidating, or they just can't understand her, and in return she can't understand most others, and has the tendency to view normal humanoids as lesser, because compared to dragons humanoids are lesser.
- Dragons are known to have good senses, at least a good nose and good hearing. While that may also be advantageous, Akeya suffers greatly when exposed to lots of noise, or to extreme stench.
- Twilight Dragon doesn’t grant Akeya active abilities, but permanent changes to her body. While this has many advantages it also means that if Akeya is in trouble in her current state she does not possess any spells to turn the tide.
Abilities:
- Akeya’s magic is causing her entire being to become closer to that of a dragon. As she progresses more and more of her body will alter, making her less and less of a human as her dragon blood in combination with her magic forcibly expresses itself.
Each part of the total transformation is unlocked at the same rank as the spell slot it’s put in. - Akeya’s attunement to the flow of magic makes her a good sensor, allowing her to detect other mages at twice the range of most mages her rank, and besides of that also allows her to detect the use of magic and the type of magic being used, although the range on that is half that of her ability to detect mages, and she needs to be fairly close before she can say for certain what type of magic is being used.
- Spells/Transformations:
Manifestations of the Dragon Blood.- Twilight Dragon’s Senses:
D-Rank Spell Name:
Twilight Dragon’s Senses
Rank:
D-Rank
Type:
Shadow/Supportive
Description:
Akeya gains the ability to observe the world like a dragon living in twilight. Her eyes have become the reptilian eyes of a dragon, and she can now always see as far and sharp as others can in broad daylight, or even further. Her ability to detect and discern scents is high enough to put tracking dogs to shame. Her ears are replaced by spiny scaled fins, sharpening and increasing her hearing.
Strengths:- Akeya no longer needs light to see.
- Overall improvement in senses allows for improved detection and tracking.
- Permanent.
Weaknesses:- While Akeya’s eyes no longer require light they have also become more vulnerable to intense lights, making her more susceptible to being blinded.
- Increased hearing also makes Akeya pick up on sounds that others can’t catch, and as useful as that might be it also means she can pick up on high and low pitches which can cause her severe headaches. Extremely loud sounds also hurt more.
- The ability to catch and discern scents better also makes the nose more sensitive. Extreme stenches will do a good job of distracting Akeya or keeping her at a distance.
- Beyond causing Akeya to be good at observation her fighting capabilities aren’t increased.
- Akeya no longer needs light to see.
- Twilight Dragon’s Limbs:
C-Rank Spell Name:
Twilight Dragon’s Limbs
Rank:
C-Rank
Type:
Shadow/Supportive
Description:
Akeya gains the wings and tail of the Twilight Dragon, covered in dark blue scales with slightly lighter membrane spanning between the digits of the wings. The long tail is prehensile, and can be used for both increasing balance and grabbing objects. The wings are large and powerful enough to allow Akeya full-fledged flight. Besides of that her spine is also covered in a row of scales, smoothly emerging from the scales covering her tail and going up her back, connecting with the scales on the wings, then disappearing underneath her hair.
Strengths:- Akeya can fly.
- Her tail increases her overall balance and significantly increases agility and stability while flying.
- The prehensile tail can be used for lots of utility purposes.
- Since these new limbs are a part of Akeya’s body they can be trained and strengthened the same way as she can train and strengthen her already existing limbs.
- Can carry up to one person while flying.
- Permanent.
Weaknesses:- Seeing how the limbs are actual parts of Akeya’s body they also fall under the same natural laws. Flying, especially at high speeds, takes a lot of energy and can exhaust you pretty quickly.
- While the tail is prehensile it still isn’t as precise as an actual hand, especially since it doesn’t have fingers.
- The new limbs may have scales, but they can still be damaged almost as easily as the rest of Akeya, and it hurts like a bitch.
- If the membrane on Akeya's wings suffers a direct hit from 2 D-Rank spells or 1 C-Rank spell she becomes unable to fly until it recovers. A direct hit from a D-Rank spell slows down Akeya's flight speed significantly and makes her a lot clumsier.
- Recovery time for Akeya's wings when damaged takes 6 combat posts or 3 non-combat posts (non-combat post is just twice as effective as a combat post). When only partially damaged the recovery time is halved. Wings are automatically healed at the start of a new thread.
- After getting used to having a tail for balance, Akeya is less stable if somehow using her tail is made impossible. Particularly noticeable in flight.
- While the tail is not that difficult to curl up, the wings can make it difficult for Akeya to manoeuvre in tight places.
- The more weight Akeya has with her when flying the slower she’ll be and the faster she’ll run out of stamina.
- Akeya can fly.
- Twilight Dragon’s Scales:
B-Rank Spell Name:
Twilight Dragon’s Scales
Rank:
B-Rank
Type:
Shadow/Supportive
Description:
Akeya gains the dark blue scales worn by the dragon who lives in twilight. They cover her back, expanding to her sides but stopping short of her actual front. Her forearms and lower legs are covered in thick scales, the scales on her hands and feet being smaller and more delicate. More sparse scales adorn the outer side of her thighs and upper arms. On the edges of Akeya’s cheeks and forehead even finer scales appear than those on her hands and feet. Thanks to these scales Akeya becomes tougher, her entire body but specifically those parts covered in scales.
Strengths:- Akeya takes 10% less damage, making her more durable.
- Akeya’s forearms, lower legs, back and tail take 20% less damage (total reduction, includes the 10% her entire body has), and the forearms, lower legs and tail can be used to block or deflect weak physical attacks (lower rank than her own).
- Permanent.
Weaknesses:- While Akeya has become more durable than normal humans she still has vulnerable areas, and the reduction is not that high.
- The ability to deflect attacks only works on physical attacks. Her scales don't allow for her to block magic abilities.
- The forearms, legs and tail can be used to block physical attacks, but that ability is limited. Physical attacks of a rank lower still do 50% of their normal damage. Two ranks lower does 25% of the intended damage. Anything below that is completely blocked.
- The areas covered in scales are tougher but that toughness relies on the scales. If the scales are damaged the reduction goes back to the 10% affecting her entire body (scales can be temporarily damaged/destroyed with damage of a higher rank than Akeya’s own).
- This damage reduction has no effect against Dragon Slayers, since their magic is focused on fighting the same creature as Akeya is turning into.
- Akeya is only tougher when dealing with direct attacks. Attacks which focus on messing her up from the inside or special means (disease, weakening curses, etc.) go right through.
- Akeya takes 10% less damage, making her more durable.
- Twilight Dragon’s Claws:
A-Rank Spell Name:
Twilight Dragon’s Claws
Rank:
A-Rank
Type:
Shadow/Supportive
Description:
Akeya gains the weapons of a dark dragon. Her hands and feet have turned into mighty claws, and her teeth have become sharp and dangerous fangs while a pair horns appear on her head. Her hands have grown larger, with her nails being replaced by large sharp talons which can be used to shred and pierce. Her feet have turned into pounces (old word for hind claws), naturally with even bigger talons than her hands. On her heels a smaller digit has grown, increasing stability while standing and allowing her to grab either the ground or an object with her feet.
(At this point Akeya looks similar to this, albeit with much larger wings: http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2015/038/6/0/filfire_by_gramcrackers-d8h0k46.jpg)
Strengths:- Akeya can now use her claws to slash and pierce rather than only punch and strike. Beyond that the claws grant a B-Rank boost to attacks.
- The new talons are extremely durable, allowing Akeya to even harm rocks and similar substances.
- Having clawed feet increases Akeya’s grip, increasing her stability. Also allows her to grab objects similar to a bird.
- While maybe not as useful as the claws, having fangs and horns can also be pretty neat (eating, headbutting, biting).
- Permanent.
Weaknesses:- The new hands and feet make it impossible for Akeya to wear normal clothing, forcing her to acquire clothing specifically made for her. This also means that she can’t use armour or enchanted equipment unless altered for her form.
- The new hands are somewhat less nimble than before, and while they can be used as weapons Akeya also has trouble wielding normal weapons due to the altered shape of her hands.
- By now Akeya’s body has changed so much that it’s pretty much impossible for her to ever pretend that she’s human, making disguising next to impossible without the help of magic. Magic which she herself does not possess.
- As useful having claws is, it still is only of use at close range.
- Clawed feet tend to leave scratches and easily recognizable imprints on the ground if not used carefully.
- The increased stability of her clawed feet only comes into play while Akeya is standing or moving carefully. While running she will only be touching the ground with her toes, making her as vulnerable to being knocked on her ass as anybody else.
- Akeya can now use her claws to slash and pierce rather than only punch and strike. Beyond that the claws grant a B-Rank boost to attacks.
- Twilight Dragon’s Heritage:
S-Rank Spell Name:
Twilight Dragon’s Heritage
Rank:
S-Rank
Type:
Shadow/Supportive
Description:
The dragon blood running through Akeya’s veins begins to fully express itself, making her as much of a dragon as she can be before reaching the crossroads which would make her choose between keeping her humanity or abandoning it, with no way to turn back after the choice is made. Rather than altering Akeya on the outside at this stage her entire biology is altered, giving her increased strength and speed while also enhancing her regenerative abilities to be comparable to those of a lizard. Her mind is also affected (even more so than before), making her more cunning but at the same time estranging her more from humans than any other change before this point.
Strengths:- Akeya gains a 30% boost to her speed and strength, which in combination with her previous transformations turns her into a fast and powerful bruiser.
- It is now possible for Akeya to regrow any lost limbs without any outside help, although without help the process is painful and takes very long. However at the same time she also responds better to being healed, her regeneration being enhanced by healing magic.
- Her newfound intelligence allows Akeya to quickly react and think ahead while in a fight, giving her an edge even when surprised.
- Permanent.
Weaknesses:- The increase in speed and strength also makes Akeya more susceptible to abilities which focus on countering and using one’s own strength against them. For example a spell which amplifies incoming damage and sends it back at the assailant would hit Akeya a lot harder than most people.
- While Akeya has the quickness of mind and the reflexes to keep up with her own speed she can’t take away the fact that when things go faster it’s easier for something to go wrong and it can go wrong faster.
- Akeya might have become smarter, but at this point she has trouble understanding other humans, which makes it harder for her to work together with teams or get along with humans. This can cause difficult and tense situations.
- Regrowing your limbs is of course a fantastic ability. However as said before it takes very long without help, and even with help it’s still a lot of work. Besides of that it’s a painful process, and hastening it using healing magic only increases the pain, even if that pain lasts shorter. Unless some very strong magic is used Akeya can’t regrow a lost limb inside the thread/job where she lost it, and while it’s regrowing it’s extremely vulnerable to being damaged again.
- Due to her now really having become like a dragon Akeya has become vulnerable to Dragon Slayers, taking increased damage if hit by their abilities.
- Akeya gains a 30% boost to her speed and strength, which in combination with her previous transformations turns her into a fast and powerful bruiser.
