And so it begins…
A dark shadow, moving along shadows. A downcast rainy day, sleepy sun not yet up beyond the horizon. As rain falls slowly, coating the cobbled streets with blurred mirror image of street lights still on. The shadow approaches a large brick structure adorned with the colors and standards belonging to the knights. “So, this is the barracks?” says a voice, unheard by all but one “not too shabby”. The shadow approaches the double doors “yes, it will do nicely as our new home” says the shadow.
Inside the building, barracks to the rune knights, sat the guard behind the duty desk. He searched the street through the wide enforced windows for a shadow he swore he had seen coming this way just moment ego. The heavy wood front door came open creaking from being swollen by the moisture in the air. Startled, the guard stood quickly and faced the door. A large figure slowly walked in, hidden beneath a heavy cloak and wide brimmed straw hat.
Grotto looked at the guard, his face bisected by a wide green, a reaction to seeing the guard so shaken by his presence “and so it begins…” he says to himself under his breath. Grotto reaches into his cloak and retrieves a fold of papers. He hands his orders to the guard “Grotto Ochoa the Second, here for barracks assignment” grotto barks, making the guard jump. Grotto then laughs “c’mon man, be proud, don’t be scared, we are like brothers you know”. The guard takes the papers, checks them against the roster, and then hands grotto a key and a booklet. “You are in room 335C, 3rd floor on the west wing.” He said crossly “now, that book is the standing orders for the barracks, if you have any questions you can ask the duty guard for the day, or the BEQ manager in his office, room 106A, 2nd floor in the main hall.”
“Thank you” said grotto as he took his orders back. The guard stared at him as Grotto made his way to the main hall, following the map on the booklet. “Now that was one scary slop, wonder where they dug him up” said the guard to no one in particular once he was sure Grotto was out of ear shot….
